Golden Bay offers a variety of fantastic and easily accessible photography locations. Dave Buckton and Richard Young will guide you on a four-day workshop where you will have the opportunity to photograph stunning limestone formations, lush native forests and ever-changing sand dunes. You will also spend one full day on a privately chartered boat exploring photography locations and marine wildlife in the world famous Abel Tasman National Park. The boat will allow us to visit beaches and bays that would normally take days to walk into and gain access to short walking tracks to stunning photography locations.

Day 1

Meet in Nelson mid-morning and drive over to our accommodation in Golden Bay. There are plenty of photo opportunities on the drive along the way so we might stop off or take a short diversion to make the most of the drive. Our first day finishes with a sunset shoot at one of many stunning beaches in Golden Bay

Day 2

We will have an early start to photograph the sunrise before we board our private chartered boat and spend the day photographing Abel Tasman National Park. You will be taken into the most photogenic areas of the park with plenty of opportunities to head ashore to take in the beautiful bays and beaches along this stunning coastline.

Day 3

Our third day commences with another early start to shoot the iconic Archway Islands at sunrise. We will spend the rest of the day exploring this area, taking opportunities to photograph the stunning coastline of Wharariki Beach and Farewell Spit before heading back to Archway Islands for sunset.

Day 4

Our last chance for a sunrise shoot in Golden Bay so we will be up early to shoot one of a number of coastal locations. We will then head inland to the Takaka Hill area to photograph limestone formations and beech forests before making our way back to Nelson to connect with late afternoon flights.

Golden Bay offers a variety of fantastic and easily accessible photography locations. Spend three days photographing stunning limestone formations, lush native forests and ever-changing sand dunes on beautiful beaches that the area is famous for. Travel in a modern 4wd vehicle on a photography tour that can be customised to suit your personal preferences.

Day 1

Meet in Nelson mid-morning and drive over to our accommodation in Golden Bay. There are plenty of photo opportunities along the drive so we might stop off or take a short diversion to make the most of the travel time. Our first day finishes with a sunset shoot at one of many stunning beaches in Golden Bay.

Day 2

Our second day commences with an early start to shoot the iconic Abel Tasman National Park at sunrise. We will spend the morning photographing this area before heading to a nearby cafe for a late breakfast. In the afternoon we will head out to Wharariki Beach to photograph Archway Islands at sunset.

Day 3

Our last chance for a sunrise shoot in Golden Bay so we will be up early to shoot one of a number of coastal locations at sunrise. If you would like to do some aerial photography, there is an opportunity to take a scenic flight (on demand and not included in the listed price). We then head inland to the Takaka Hill area to photograph limestone formations and beech forests before making our way back to Nelson to connect with late afternoon flights.

HELICOPTER ADD-ON
There are parts of New Zealand that are still true wilderness and on this tour we fly you into the heart of Kahurangi National Park.  We leave early in the morning to allow plenty of time to photograph a stunning mountain location in morning light. There is also the option to extend this flight (at extra cost) to also fly further into Kahurangi to Mount Olympus, a location made famous by the Lord of the Rings movies. -  $800

 

BOAT CHARTER ADD-ON
Spend the day photographing the world famous Abel Tasman National Park on your own privately chartered boat. The coastline of the Abel Tasman is made up of small bays with stunning beaches and rock formations that provide wonderful photography subjects. As well as exploring the beautiful coastline we will also call into some of the most photogenic points in the Abel Tasman and follow short walking tracks to stunning viewpoints. - POA

Otago’s rare wildlife of seabirds and marine mammals ensures it is known as New Zealand’s ‘wildlife capital’. This flexible workshop in spring makes the most of the regions spectacular coastal scenery and wildlife hotspots, just as the birds begin to nest.

Join Richard Young and Dave Buckton on a four-day wildlife photography workshop showcasing the best of Otago’s wildlife and coastal scenery. You will capture the regions exceptional wildlife including New Zealand sea lions and fur seals, as well as a host of rare bird species, such as the yellow-eyed penguin, northern royal albatross and Otago shags.

Our Otago Wildlife Workshop includes a boat charter around the peninsula, with another highlight being a stay and dinner at the famous Larnach Castle. We will also travel north of Dunedin, to photograph the Moeraki Boulders, one of New Zealand’s most distinctive coastal landscapes and visit the Orokonui Wildlife Sanctuary.

Day 1

Meeting at Dunedin airport mid-morning we drive out to our accommodation for the next three nights, Larnach Castle. We will run through an introductory programme to discuss the finer points of capturing amazing wildlife images and advanced settings for wildlife photography, before heading out for our first wildlife shoot and then an evening landscape shoot at one of the peninsulas many beautiful beaches.

Day 2

Today we take a boat charter to view many of these species from the sea, visit the world’s only mainland breeding colony of northern royal albatross. We spend this afternoon photographing the magnificent New Zealand sea lion, at the only breeding location for this species on mainland New Zealand. We end the day photographing sunset over the ridges and estuaries of the peninsula before returning to Larnach Castle for dinner (included) which will be the culinary highlight of the tour, eating in the castle’s grand dining room.

Day 3

Today we head further afield to photograph the forest birds at Orokonui, which is home to New Zealand’s tuatara, a relic from the dinosaur age. Exploring the coastline we will stop to photograph a colony of shags and New Zealand fur seals. Then we head out for the afternoon to photograph yellow-eyed penguins as they return from a day out at sea, before sunset over the famed Moeraki Boulders.

Day 4

After an early morning sunrise of views across the peninsula, we spend some time reviewing photographs from the previous four days and covering post processing. We then spend the rest of the day exploring some more of the coastline and is exceptional wildlife before returning to Dunedin airport to connect with late afternoon flights.
